"I aim to play along side my son (aged 4) for the team I've had many happy memories with, I am here for the long term, the pride I get from coaching the children and recently witnessing my daughter score the winning runs for our Senior team, playing in the same team as her. We have the passion to develop children through the teams; my daughter has represented the club at Kwik Cricket, under 11s, under 13s and Seniors, a club member for six years; I hope that other parents get to experience the same pride as I have."
Daniel Hills, Juniors Coach and Senior Team Player.

About Us

Sutton Courtenay Cricket Club was founded in May 2006. Our purpose is to promote the playing and enjoyment of cricket to all ages within our community and our aim is to become a centre of excellence for cricket in our local area.

We came into being in the early summer of 2006 following on from a conversation, over a beer or two, in the George & Dragon, between Simon Dorman and Kit Thomas

Firstly we consulted with members of the Parish Council and Gerald Lacy (then Chairman) at the Football Club and it was agreed that we would ask for interested parties to attend a viability meeting. This meeting took place 9th May and was attended by over 20 people – a lively discussion took place and it was agreed that we should form our Club and appointed a committee to organise and look after our interests.

Naturally, money was an issue, so we asked for founder members to make a contribution to help us form the club and buy some equipment so that we could build practice nets, make a square and arrange some friendly fixtures. Our founder members were:

Simon Dorman
Kitson Thomas
Nathan Hamilton
Richard, Judy & Jack Mathews
Ian Maconochie

  Dave Price
Steve Denton
Quentin Hoodless
Ian Pettit

There were also significant contributions made by the clientele and the then landlords of the George & Dragon through various fund-raising exercises!

We finally played our first ever game against a scratch side from The Plough on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in July, at the Recreation Ground, where in front of a large crowd of over 200 people and under the leadership of skipper Daniel Hill and with a 50 from Kit Thomas, we recorded the first ever win for the Club!

Since those early days the Club has gone from strength to strength and are grateful to have received continued support from the Parish Council, NPower Trust, Sport4All, Asda and other interested local parties (click here for a list of our current list of sponsors) – THANK YOU!
